UI performance has gotten very bad

I have a Mac running VMWare Fusion with an Ubuntu 12.04 VM. I recently updated the Mac to Yosemite, and VMWare to 7.0. Ever since then, the UI performance of the VM has gotten really bad. Moving a console window takes several seconds, with the window disappearing and redrawing in sections. I run Gnu Emacs, and refreshes of windows there are just painful. I've tried various settings of 3D acceleration, but 1) it hasn't helped, and 2) it's probably not the issues since I'm not doing anything 3D-related.

What gives? How can I fix this?

Which model of Mac are you using?  Is it a mid-2011 iMac?
