Two versions side by side?

Hi,

I upgraded a Fusion 6 STD to 8 STD and installed it.

My problem is that I had Fusion 7 PRO installed for cluster Linux VMs and installing version 8 just replaced version 7 which I absolutely need.

Is there any way to have two versions, in my case, 7 PRO + 8 STD side by side?

I have licenses for both products, they are not exclusives...

Thanks for any help.

Steve

Hi,

I think you can uninstall 8, then reinstall 7 Pro.

After that install Fusion 8 to another location (not under Applications)

At least that is what worked in the past.

But beware that while you might be able to run both  products on the same host, you won't be able to run both at the same time.

Another -perhaps cleaner- alternative might be to install OS X on another partition/disk as well and dual boot to that partition if you need to run Fusion 7.

We do it all day long here, no problems.  In Fusion 4 we did stuff to contain the Fusion application as much within the application package that we can.

It gets a little funky with KEXTS, but the new kexts support the old UIs and vmware-vmx processes, so it should work just fine.

I only go 1 version back personally, so the further back you go the greater the risk of those KEXTS not playing nice with the UI and vmx processes.

I just rename one to 'VMware Fusion 7' and my Fusion 8 is just 'VMware Fusion'

But yah, like Wil says, you definitely can't run them both at the same time... bad things, man. bad things.
