Trying to create a desktop shortcut on my Mac OS Big Sur 11.6.1

Trying to create a desktop shortcut to the My Harmony Remote application on my Mac OS Big Sur 11.6.1.
I'm following the steps in "Create Virtual Machine Application Shortcuts on the Host in Unity Mode".
I seem to only be able to enter Unity Mode when I am in the Windows 10 Virtual Machine.
When I go into unity mode I lose the Windows desktop and the start menu.
If I have an application open like the My Harmony Remote application then I can see the app, but not the Windows desktop and the start menu.

I'm kind of new to VM Fusion and VM tools in general.
The only other VM I have used is Parallels.

Any help is appreciated.

The page you reference in your post is for VMware Workstation for Windows, not Fusion. Have you seen the instructions   in https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Fusion/12/com.vmware.fusion.using.doc/GUID-D6D21238-407A-4222-94C3...

Putting the icon in the dock may then allow you to drag it to the desktop, but I haven’t had a chance to see if that works.
