Trying to bring my VM to a 'demo' state so as not to set stuff up all the time

So apologies wondering the best approach for what I want to do - and I'm new to this stuff.

I have a bunch of demos I run in a VMWare session and it takes a lot of time to set them all up - like 5 of them.

I'd like to Snapshot my VMWare session with them all ready to go .... OK fine.

But if I revert to that Snapshot then I revert the whole system back to when it was taken correct? In which case that isn't good because I build new stuff all the time.

Can I snapshot back to a point in time but then exit the session without it updating and overwriting what I've done. My gut says no.

So I set up the demos and pause the VM so when I bring it up they are all there. Great.

Is there a downside to that.

However I find I do need to shut the VM down time to time ... it's unstable or whatever ... then I have to set it up all again

Is there a better approach than my writing perhaps some demo launcher code to handle this for me?
