Time Machine-compatible snapshots: new feature?

...is this a new feature to Fusion, as of v4?

if so, im trying to remember how it currently works... i believe right now i have my VMs excluded from the TM backups because any time the VM changes the entire 40+ GBs gets replaced on the TM volume.

can someone who is using it in v4 explain how it works and how you set it up?

thanks!

So I have the same question and this is where I am at...

1. Make sure to exclude the Virtual machines folder from Time Machine Backups. I think this is automatic by a flag that VMware but on that folder but just in case.

2. In Fusion options for the VM just enable Auto-protect snapshots.

All literature says that this takes care of everything. I haven't tried recovering a VM yet but I'll get there.

My question is that snapshots only capture deltas of VM changes. So if my machine fails and I never backed up the original vmdk (VMware says to exclude and never hint at making at least one TM backup), how will the snapshot recovery work?

You would think there would be step by styep instructions or at least a quick guide but.... I'll keep you posted... already configured my machine for this just need to try recovery...
