Speedtest.net shows VM 1/3 the speed of OS X

Hi, I've just installed Debian GNU/Linux testing in a 2.0.2 VM, and the download speed in the VM is only about 1/3 (4.5Mbps) that in the host OS X (13.2Mbps), both measured with Speedtest.net. There is no appreciable difference between using NAT or Bridged. In the latter case (Bridged) I used a static IP and the AEBS router as nameserver. Could somebody give me a hint where to start looking for a fix?

There may not BE a fix. ALL network traffic in a virtual machine is handled by the host's CPU as the virtual NIC is an emulated one. Your host PC offloads network traffic to the processor/coprocessor on the physical network card. So, if your host CPU is busy/under load, the network traffic will not be able to be as high in your guests.
