Sharing files

I'm relatively new to Fusion. I have the latest version (1.1 62573) with XP , also latest version (this is the Bootcamp partition). I am running Fusion in a MacBook Pro 2.2 with Leopard.

I am used to Parallels where I can easily access my files in the Mac by either dragging them to the XP desktop or opening them directly from an XP application by looking for the documents under the My Networks folder . I can't seem to do either with Fusion.

I have enabled sharing in the virtual machines folder and I can go to My Network Places/Entire Network/VMware Shared Folders where I can see the .host icon. But if I click on it I get a error message stating that "You do not have access to the folder '
.host'. See your administrator for access to this folder."

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Some more information. I have two Fusion VM, one is the Bootcamp partition (XP) and I also have a Vista VM. The Vista VM works ok, I can access through the network folders the files in my MacBook. I tried to see what the difference between the two was. Under settings for Vista I can set the shared folders in the MacBook and I can see the name of the MacBook. But for the XP-Bootcamp I can't seem to do the same. I can check the 'enabled at power on' box but every time i try to check the 'Enabled' box it will uncheck itself when I hit Apply or OK.

can you try accessing the shared folder Start>Run>
.host from your XP VM

also you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the VMware Tools in XP VM

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the tools but nothing changed. Is this related to it being the Bootcamp partition?

Here's what I found was causing me problems. After you've installed the tools and turned on sharing, you then have to add folders to be shared. None are set by default. In VMWare -> Settings, select "Shared Folders" and click the "+". That will let you define a folder to be shared, and what level of permissions that share should have. After that you should be able to see the folders in your VM by browsing to
.host\shared folders\[folder name].

I'm trying to set up a shared folder between MacOSX and Ubuntu 9.10. I've done the dance in Virtual Machine/Settings/Shared Folder and i see the folder there. I've enabled File Sharing for that folder in OSX.

I've given my OSX user, System Group and also Everyone rw access. Where should the OSX folder be located, within my user or at the root level of the hd? Right now I have it at ~/Public/SharedVMWareUbuntu

Where should I see this folder in Ubuntu? How do I access it?

What have I missed.

Thx for any tips,

Ken
