Shared Folders hiccup

I have Shared Folders activated with an external USB disk as target (for Windows 10 File History storage). This works fine first, but after a couple of days the host starts to freeze sequentially for a few seconds (with an increasing intensity). If I shut down/suspend the VM the problem goes away immediately. Therefore it must be related to the Shared Folder feature. Does anyone have an idea of why this happens?

If the external USB drive goes to sleep (a lot of consumer drives do), there can be a pause/lag while it spins up.  I have that even on my host system (finder will spinning beachball from time to time).

Good point! It's a bit confusing though that the lag starts first after a couple of days (and it gets worse as time goes by), but I'll try to uncheck this feature in System Preferences and I get back here with a report later on...

OK! It became a bit better with that setting, but the problem is not entirely gone... Weird 😕
