Recover VM Ware After Disk Drive Lost

My system with VMWare Fusion has been running great for years.

Unfortunately, about a month ago, the disk drive running my MacPro failed and caused a lot of problem,

Yesterday, I reached a major milestone, getting my VMs running under VMWare on my machine. I had reconstructed from backups, it was complicated.

This license file I guess can be used to identify the code that has to be entered into the product for it to keep working when it has been moved to another system.  The code is not in this file, but entering the secret number creates these codes, i think.

Today, I tried putting into place files from an old installation. Now, when I start the most important VM I have, it seems to start ok, but I cannot connect to with ssh the way I always have. The VM appears to be running in the console, but it does not respond in any way to ssh.

I understand I am not entitled to any support. I am wondering if you can suggest to me how I might be able to re-install VMWare Fusion and and recover mu VM

Any assistance you can provide will be much appreciated

Just something you may need to clarify.

The VM shows that it has IP address 192.168.1.84, but you're trying to ssh into 192.168.1.100?

That is a great point, that I can explain. However, my situation has advanced.  I will cover the ip address issue, with slightly different details.

PROGRESS SINCE YESTERDAY

I did a new installation of VMWare Fusion.  I believe it is running normally

I move a copy of the licsense codes  that I had previously, to replace the trail version.  Now VMWare Fusion is running normally.

I still have a problem getting my 6-year old VMs to be reachable with SSH

Strange. Why don't you reset your root password to find out about network configuration from within the guest OS?

I don't know how to reset the root password on a vm in fusion  cannot log onto.  How is that done?

By moving files among the user directories in the old installation into the new one, I was able to get normal operations restored

If you did never do this before, consider to take a temporary VM snapshot before you power on the VM, then follow the steps to reset the password.
