Problems changing screen dpi in Win XP

In Win XP goto control panel - display - settings - advanced, change the dpi to say 115%. On my Macbook Pro with 2G and RC1 the fusion screen vanished as if the program had crashed. But on clicking the fusion shortcut on mac desktop fusion appears and on clicking run Win XP appears but only for a few seconds. You get out of it, during these few seconds, by quickly going back through the steps and resetting the dpi to normal i.e. 96 dpi. It's as if Win XP is running in the background or canoot be displayed. Anybody got a workaround ?

This is a known problem. It will be fixed in the next release.

I'm not aware of any workaround besides "don't do that" or "use beta 4".

What do you mean by "loses personal settings"? Not to be nitpicky, but it's a bit vague.

We shouldn't be doing anything to the guest OS that might cause settings to disappear. That said, it may be our fault, so I want to make sure it's not.

In Win XP I set up personal settings eg. theme (XP or classic), desktop background, window settings etc in control panel - display, and then on quitting Win tells you, 'saving personal settings'. On reopening Win XP (in Fusion) the previously saved settings are not active i.e. the desktop, theme are different from what was set previously. But if you go to control panel - display, all the previously chosen settings are correct. So for some reason although the actual settings are correct they are not manifest on screen. But if you do a Restart from within XP the settings are correctly manifest on screen. Not a major problem, but annoying.

Also, my enter key no longer works in Win XP in Fusion, no idea why.

Fusion, no idea why.

If you're using a European laptop, this is expected because the enter key is now remapped to the AltGr key. See the release notes about this and how to disable it.

Thanks, works fine. Do you know anything about the loss of Win XP settings in my last post ?

No idea; assuming that your other data is saved (e.g. you create a file on the XP desktop, reboot, and the file is still there), I wouldn't expect anything to be special about your settings. If I were you, I'd investigate from the Windows side.

Can you do me a favor and check whether you have the following entry in your registry and if so, what its value is?

\[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

-> "NoSaveSettings"

Ciao, Andreas

Thanks...looks okay though. Now...the only other thing that comes to my mind is to check the event viewer for error messages in regards to permissions to your user settings. To open Event Viewer, click 'Start' -> 'Control Panel' -> 'Performance and Maintenance' -> 'Administrative Tools' -> 'Event Viewer'. Check the system as well as the security log and let me know whether you see any errors.

Ciao, Andreas

On two test launches of Win XP Prof in Fusion RC1, 15 secs after starting Win XP there are 4 errors recorded under System. Source is same for all 4 - W32Time, category is none, events are 17,29,17,29.

I can send screen shot but not right now.
