Performance issues with Mac OS Catalina

I have been experiencing a performance issue.  2019 MBP os 10.15.7 running Windows 7.  As soon as I start up Fusion a process called coreaudio shoots up to 15% CPU and causes fans to race.  Killing the process with Activity Monitor only causes it to return.  Quitting Fusion does not release the process.  Only restarting my mac, stops it.  But as soon as I start up Fusion it happens again.

moderator edit: removed as reply from original thread https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Fusion-Discussions/Performance-issues-with-Mac-OS-Catalina-... to a new topic as it is different.

Can you please state the VMware Fusion version you use? Is it Fusion 11.5.3 as in the other thread or a different version?

15% CPU is a very low number for it to make the fan rise.
Is Activity Monitor set to show all processes?

When you say "As soon as I start up Fusion it starts again"... Are you starting Fusion or are you running your Windows 7 VM? You can start one without the other...

Fusion version: 11.1.1

I do not see a means of updating to 11.x.  When prompted I'm only given the option to 12.x and have to pay.  If there is a new minor 11 version I would like to update, but don't see how to do so.

show all processes: yes

yes, starting fusion, causes a new process called coreaudiod to begin, then the fans, which are normally silent begin to spin.  That coreaudiod process stays around 14-15%, and the fans remain spinning, the process remains in Activity monitor, even when I quit fusion.  In this scenario I never start up the Windows VM.  I agree that is a low % to cause fan noise, but I've been tracking this for months, just living with it.  Today I reached a frustration point and found the forum and decided to post.

Hi,

OK.

You can always update to any of the 11.x versions that are available.
The latest version Fusion 11.x version is 11.5.7
Available here:
https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/downloads/details?downloadGroup=FUS-1157&productId=798&rPId=55757

That would be the first troubleshooting step.
Probably best to first uninstall 11.1.1 by dragging it to the bin.

For VMware Fusion 12, it depends on if you are using VMware Fusion for personal use or professionally.

The free VMware Fusion Player nowadays that has the same functionality as the old -non professional- version of VMware Fusion. It is available for personal use only.

I have updated to 11.5.7 and so far it looks like that solved the issue.  That is great!  I'll post again if anything shifts in that result.

Thank you for the update information, Wil, if this sticks, I will be relieved.
