PC Migration - Converter failed to connect to remote machine. A general system error occurred: unknown internal error

Hi,

I'm brand new to v m fusion so please excuse me if i miss useful information from the post first time around.

I am trying to use the Migrate your PC feature of VM Fusion 8 but am seeing the error in the topic title when I attempt to start the import.

I have disabled firewalls on both the PC and MAC

I have tried over ethernet and direct connections

When I run the PC migration tool on windows it complains that UAC is enabled even though it is not (confirmed through control panel, and changing via command prompt)

When attempting the migration, it accepts the pin number and then shows a certificate warning, which i choose to continue through

it then prompt me for admin username/pass on the PC (I have tried my regular one and also tried settting up a new admin user and trying that)

after this i see the error: PC Migration - Converter failed to connect to remote machine. A general system error occurred: unknown internal error

Should I persist with trying to get this to work, or will it ultimately be easier to find a less direct way to turn the PC in to a VM on the Mac?

I found the logs on the mac and have posted what i think is the relevant one below, but not really sure:

well just incase anyone finds this in the future, the issue turned out to be that my PC was joined to a domain, but I was logged in to a local account. I resolved the issue by leaving the domain. There may be other ways to get around this issue.

Glad you figured it out.  If you intend to use the VM frequently or retain for a long time, you may want to just create a clean one from scratch.  Converting physical machines always results in bloated, buggy, unstable VM's.
