No Sound after upgrading from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 and suggested solutions don't work

I have been using Apple computers and programming for over 20 years and have been using VMWare Fusion since it was in Beta. This sound problem makes it seem like it should still be in Beta.

I recently upgraded from Version 1.1.2 and now there is no sound. I know there was sound with 1.1.1 and I think I used Fusion for media stuff that would involve sound since upgrading to 1.1.2.

I have read through the discussions about no sound problems and and tried the solutions and those did not work.

Boot Camp is not installed. Never used boot camp.

The Virtual Machine was Created Using Fusion.

No error messages are seen. All programs seem to work fine. Just no sound.

Installed VMWare Tools Version 7.6.3, build-94249 and have service running with Audio checked under devices

Yes, the host computer sound is just fine. And I checked everyone of the volume controls and mute options I could find on host and the guest to be sure it wasn't stupid.

YES, the vmx file has the sound set up correctly

YES, I tried shutting down the guest and selecting settings, removing the sound and then adding it back and restarting the guest. No sound.

YES, I tried shutting down the Macbook, removing the battery, left it for over 5 minutes, put battery back and power connector, restarted

computer with Command-Option-P-R pressed to reset PRAM . No sound.

So at this point, it seems the only to get sound is to revert back to version 1.1.2 or to be sure 1.1.1 .

This is a pretty sad situation.

Any other ideas out there ?

I hate downgrading. There should be a warning.

Have you tried creating a new Virtual Machine just as a test to see if sound works in the new VM. No Windows Product Activation, no Windows Updates or programs other then VMware Tools?

FWIW 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 are maintenance releases and and do not add any additional features over 1.1.1. So as long a what was fixed in 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 doesn't impact your situation then I's stick with 1.1.1.

I'm having the same problem as you are on my Mac Pro at work. Sounds stopped playing in Windows XP Pro guest only after I upgraded to 1.1.3. I'm running Leopard 10.5.3.

Oddly, on my home Mac, sound plays fine on both my Vista Ultimate 64 and my XP Pro guests under VMWare Fusion 1.1.3.

This is driving me nuts, as I need to record online tutorials which are narrated. My mic, which originally recorded fine under the XP Pro guest running on 1.1.2 host, has stopped working, as have any speakers or headphones. All works fine under Mac mode, just not under Windows guest.

I've tried doing the remove sound trick, quitting VMWare fusion, reboot mac, reinstall VMWare Tools, etc. Nothing is working.

Anyone else have any ideas how to fix this?

Same here... I had this probem about 2 versions ago when the 10.5.2 update came out... Vmware released a new version and it resolved the issue... I guess its back.....

I spotted a message in another area of these forums about fixing sounds problems on XP Pro guests running under VMWare Fusion. It actually worked on one of my computers, but not the other.

The method has you log in as root (naturally, you have to have root enabled, if you don't already). Then you go to to the Sound category of System Preferences and specify the output/input sound settings.

Log out of root and back into your normal login and fire up VMWare Fusion.

This fixed the problem on my Mac Pro (running 10.5.4), but not my new iMac 3.02 gHz. Both machines are running VMWare Fusion 1.1.3, Mac OS 10.5.4 and have 4gb ram.
