New VM will only network boot

I am trying to install a new Windows XP Pro vm, and it immediately goes to network boot. I put the cd first in the boot order, tried booting from an .iso, manually selecting the cd drive, etc. with no luck. The .iso and the cd work fine with Parallels. I only have one optical drive on my system. Any ideas?

Can you upload the vmware.log file and the *.vmx file from your VM's directory? They should be part of the VM's package.

Do you have the virtual CD device connected, and do you see the CD-ROM LED lit up (blue) at the bottom of the VM while the VM boots?

Thanks!

Also check to make sure that the drive is showing as connected in the VM.

i don't know this is your case, but when i tried to install on a scsi hard disk it went to network installation.

i then downloaded the scsi driver from http://download3.vmware.com/software/vmscsi-1.2.0.4.flp and mounted it in a floppy disk (added). with cdrom or image mounted at the same time, it boots to cdrom. i then follow the xp instruction (very beginning) to say i have my scsi driver. everything went pretty well ever since.

my xp pro sp2 is now running as if native speed.

I reinstalled Fusion, everything works like a charm now.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions.
