New Retina iMac - Problem with Mouse in Windows 10

Hello - I got yesterday my new Retina iMac and transferred the VM Fusion with all stuff to the new Mac. All went fine so far, but after adjusting the settings to the new Retina options, the Mouse is not using VM Ware Tools. I reinstalled the Tools but I got no change. Still, the mouse ist slow and I cannot leave the Fusion window as it used to be. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks MK

Please try the following steps:

1. Remove the existing VM Tools from Control Panel-->Uninstall a Program

2. Reboot your VM and install the bundled VM Tools.

3. If the issue persists, make sure the mouse preference  in VMware Fusion-->Perferences-->Gaming is NOT set to 'Always optimize mouse for games'

-Rick

Thank you very much - that did the trick. Now the mouse is responding again. Screen resolution on the retina display is OK, only some dialog boxes are too small. Do you have by chance a tip for me to solve this too?

What kind of dialog boxes are too small? Could you take some screenshots for examples?

Here you see size of different texts OK, but all things provided via OS like the small icons or the headline text of the program are far too small. Section boxes same etc. I hope you can see want I mean. Thanks for your assistance, Michael

Yes, I see your problem.

You see the Icons are smaller than Text because Fusion changed the DPI Scaling (increase to 150% or 200%, up to your Windows version) in your Windows VM if you checked 'Use full resolution for Retina display' option in VM Display settings.

If you think the font size is too large you can uncheck the option 'Automatically adjust user interface size in the virtual machine' (sign-out required) and adjust the DPI Scaling manually in Windows VM-->display settings.

For Windows built-in applications like File Browser, both the Text and Icons can be resized via DPI scaling, but for custom applications it seems only the Text can be resized.

Hopefully it makes sense for you.

Thank you again for your help. I experimented some days with the different settings you suggested. So far, the system settings are working correctly, but apps have their problems with the high res. The GUI is far from consistent. Especially the tiny icons in Quicken are pretty bad - but I found no way to change those - seems it is caused by the app itself. Luckily I am most of the time in El Capitan and Win X is only necessary for bookkeeping. Thanx and Regards, MK

I just upgraded to Fusion 10 and was having the same problems.  Many thanks for your detailed explanation.  Worked like a charm.
