Network no longer available in Ubuntu 12.04 guest

I suspended by Ubuntu 12.04 VM and then (after the suspend seemed to complete) shut down my Mac. I then restarted my Mac, started VMWare, and there was no option to restart the suspended VM. Instead, I could start the VM, and it seemed to come up successfully. But there was no network access (see ifconfig output below). I reinstalled vmware tools, which did not help.

Here is my setup:

Hi geophile,

Welcome to the community.

Which network were you using, bridged or NAT? Did you try to renew ip address inside the VM? Please try to use 'dhclient -r' command and then 'ifconfig' to see if your VM could get ip address.
