I want to take the drive out of an old XP machine, put it in an enclosure and hook it to the USB port, and have Fusion boot the WIndows installed on that drive.
This makes it easy to get rid of my old windows box. Is this possible?
Fusion will not detect any physical hard drive (Other than Boot Camp), what you can do is convert the old XP hard drive in to Virtual Machine (Virtual Hard drive) and theen hook the same to your Mac system.
Now you will be able to use the same with Fusion.
Hmm. any chance I can get instructions for this.. (converting a hard drive to a vm disk image)?
Kyle
you can convert you Physical system in to Virtual Machine using VMware converter and use in the VMware Fusion
VMware Converter is available on this page: http://www.vmware.com/products/converter/
So I assume the procedure would be:
1. remove the hard drive from the old computer
2. mount the hard drive in a enclosure supporting USB
3. Hook the hard drive to the mac running fusion
4. use the vm converter on the mac to create an image from the hard drive
5. create a virtual machine with the disk image being the output of converter
right? thx
You need to install VMware Converter in your Physical system, VMware Converter will convert your Physical Hard drive to Virtual Machine
