Microsoft office aps crash in VMWare Fusion 3 when opening from shared drive

Since I upgraded to VMWare Fusion 3, when I open a document in a shared mac folder (Z drive on mine) from MS Excel (for example) on the windows side, it crashes the application. I saw a thread last week on this and looked like it had something to do with the addressing system, although not sure what that means. I can't find that thread now, and it also looked fairly technical. Is there a fix for this or is VM coming out with an update to fix this?

Yes, this is a bug.. Here's the link to the other forum post about this.

The temporary workaround of using more direct "Shared Folders" will shorten the path to the file and then you'll be able to open the file seems to work okay for me. Can't wait until they fix this issue though..
