MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) to MacBook Pro 16" New

I am about to boot up my brand new MacBook Pro 16" and always dread transferring the machine.

I run VMWare Fusion Windows 10 at the same time.

I used the Mac to make a bootcamp win10 file when I got the MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015 originally.

I have updated the Mac15" to Catalina, and temp upgraded the VMWare to 11.5

I can open the Win10/Bootcamp.

I purchased Winclone to attempt to copy/back up the Windows file to a 1TB USB Drive

within Winclone I get this:

Anyway to just copy the bootcamp over directly? then I will use the TimeMachine to load back up the new Mac16"... download VMWare Fusion, buy 11.5...

and copy back over the bootcamp from the USB drive?

"I know enough to get my self into trouble.

Can't be without the Win10 OS

So guessing, you need to boot bootcamp, then repair the windows drive.  That should fix those errors.

I haven't used winclone in years, so no idea if it still works with Catalina.  You may trigger windows reactivation moving machines FWIW, and will likely have to recreate the bootcamp VM.

If you move machines on a regular basis, and don't need bootcamp itself, then a standalone virtual machine is the way to go.  Just note that Time Machine is *not* reliable to backup/migrate a standalone VM.

I did boot camp because once in awhile I run into an electronic usb device that needs only windows drivers.

Meaning I have to be in boot camp to make it connect.

This is becoming less and less needed... but would like to keep it.

I hate moving machines... it's such a pain.

I typically just boot up and move docs, etc.

I have finally been able to get the new mac 16" to load the timemachine and now typing on my new mac.

I will try booting into windows thru bootcamp, and do chkdsk /f

Great on window reactivation! Smiley Sad
