Mac OS 10.12.6 Sierra Update Breaks Fusion

My Macbook pro updated to 10.12.6 the other day. Since then I have been unable to open Fusion. I get an Application Not Responding. I found a similar issue on this forum that suggested uninstalling fusion, pulling down the latest release (8.5.8-5824040), running

xattr -l ~/Downloads/VMware-Fusion-8.5.8-5824040.dmg

then

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine ~/Downloads/VMware-Fusion-8.5.8-5824040.dmg

then reinstall.

This does not work for me. During the install, the initialzing... messagebox pops up then the question if I would like to reopen previous windows. Selecting either choice in the windows dialog does no good. The app does not respond.  Tried various reboots in between to no avail.

I've attached a log.

Thanks for any assistance!

I opened a terminal window and mounted the dmg by hand ...

sudo hdiutil attach <image>.dmg

The VMware Fusion app pops up and I simply double clicked to start the install.
