Dear all,
I'm working on a "MacPro late 2013" with 3 Screen (1 WQHD 27" vertical + 2 UWQHD 34" horizontal).
I will upgrade to 6 Screen to complete this trader workstation (The 3 Thunderbold 2 controllers of the Mac Pro allows this -> I have already tested it).
My objective is to use some screens in full size for Windows and at the same the remaining ones for Native MacOS (ElCapitan).
Example :
With my current config. of 3 screens: 2 Fusion/Windows + 1 Mac
With my upgraded config. of 6 Screens: 4Fusion/ Windows + 2 Mac
This feature is still not possible with Parallell Desktop 13 (See there KB ID 123910 and they confirmed me today by chat that this issue is still pending on their last version)
Regarding VMWARE FUSION, I found the KB ARTICLE:
It seems to confirm that Fusion9 (therefore also V10) allows this feature.
Can anyone please confirm me that this feature works and is stable in Fusion V10.
Best regards
Hi ChipMcK,
I thank you for your answer.
This option was ckecked up on my system and when active, you cannot spread 1 window across 2 screens (unlike MS Windows).
I didn't kow that it also was a prerequisite to allow to separate the VMWare Workspace from the Apple one.
My question was:
- Can we work on 2 full screen with VMWare V10 and on the third one on MAC OS and is it stable?
Your answer sugest that it is obviously YES...
Without trying VMWare V9 neither V10 yet, it wasn't so obvious for me, especially after the support from the concurrence "Parallell", confirmed me that Parallell V13 still doesn't allow this feature.
So can I take your answer for a:
Yes It works ans it's stable...
Best regards
Michel
Dear all,
After searching, I realized that I could not extend to my 34" inch screen resolution because the VGA driver that comes with the basic installation of windows 7 under Fusion10 is limited to 2048*1536.
I understood that Installing the "VMware Tools" under the Windows7 running in the VM would bring me some enhanced drivers.
This was supposed to offer "advanced Graphic Driver" with higher resolution... and it did.
The problem is that, so far, VMware didn't add the UWQHD resolution to its list in his enhanced driver.
UWQHD = 3440*1440 = Native resolution of a 34inch HD screen ...
So I'm limited to 2560*1349 (if not full screen mode) which uses 27" of my 34" screen
or 2560*1440 if full screen mode (still 27/34")
The 4k resolution is also provided but oversize the 34".
The 5k resolution is also missing (for those guys who have such a screen).
If someone can escale this issue to VMWare support it would be nice.
Being under the 10 days trial, I do not have access to Support team...
Best regards and thank you to the community.
Michel
Apple's System Preferences has tabs/panels for initializing devices and changing device settings .
I'm progressing... so I share with you guys...
Reminder:
I have Workstation 14 & VMware10 on OSX El Capitan.
1) I installed 1 Virtual Machine and inside 1 Windows7/Family Edition.
2) I started my VM and Windows7 on "Single Window" mode (opposite of "Full Screen mode").
This gave me in Wndows7/Screen Resolution:
- a standard VGA driver (from VMware) with VGA screen resolution limited to Full HD (2048*1536)
Therefore I selected WQHD ( 1920*1440).
This gave me a Windows7 covering around 60% of the width of my 34" screen.
3) on MAC OSX, in Settings/ Mission Control, "Display have separate space" was selected.
I unselected it to tried to extend the VM to 2 display.
It stretched but autoresize immediately -> Not a good solution.
I checked "Display have separate space" again for the rest of the tests...
4) I Installed the "WMware tools" in Windows7 to get the SVGA graphic driver from VMware.
I started my VM and Windows7 again on "Single Window" mode.
This gave me a enhanced list of SVGA screen resolution in Wndows7/Screen Resolution, but the UWQDH (3440*1440) = Native 34" HD screen resolution was (at that time) NOT IN THE LIST.
Therefore I selected WQHD ( 2540*1440) = Native 27" HD screen resolution.
This gave me a Windows7 covering around 79% of the width of my 34" screen.
5) I opened the "VM library window".
In the Display that contain the 'VW Library Window", the "VWware toolbar" appears as active in the MAC OSX (upper left corner of this display).
Make sure to move this window in the secondary or third screen (not the one hosting the Mac Icons toolbar).
6) In the VMware toolbar (I translate the french menu Afficher/Fenetre unique), Selected View/Unique Window
7) ) Then in the VMware toolbar I selected View/Full Screen (Full Screen mode).
Then I started my VM again and Windows7 on "Full Screen mode".
LOOK WHAT HAPPENED...
The VM and Windows7 changed automatically the screen resolution from 2540*1440 to 3440*1440.
At that time in enterd the menu in Wndows7/Screen Resolution and the UWQHD resolution was affed to the list of avalaible resolutions...
As well as 3364*1349 that is equivalent to the number of pixel used by the mode "Single Windows" when maximize.
The difference in pixel between those 2 resolutions is used for the VMware menu bar above in top of the VM window and for the Mac Icon tool bar (on the right of my main 34" screen).
This gave me a Windows7 covering around 100% of the width of my 34" screen (in Full Screen) and the max avalaible space of my 34" in "Single window mode".
REMAINING PROBLEMS:
EXTENDING THE VM TO 2 or 3 SCREENS... AND SELECTING THE SCREENS TO WICH APPLY THE VM
Reminder:
I have one 27" (vertical position) left side of the desk
I have two 34" (horizontal position) at the right of the 27" and above each other.
The lower right screen has the MAC icon bar on the right side.
Prerequisite:
Have all required screen resolution available in VM/Windows 7, for "Single window mode" and "Full Screen Mode".
OK for me, see the points above...
The things to understand is that the Multiple Screen Mode works but not completely and that VMware/Fusion10 is sometimes lost...
I understood that to help VMware/Fusion10 to find its way, the position of the "VMware Library window" and the position of the "VM/windows7" in "Single Window mode" are important.
By position, I mean on which screen ar they open before to change some settings in the "VMware toolbar" (in the MAC OSx).
MANIPULATION A:
1) I put the "VMware Library window" on my 27" (same screen shows the "VMware toolbar")
"VM/windows7" in "Single Window mode" on the lower 34".
2) In the "VMware toolbar" (on the 27") I switch to "View/Full Screen Mode"
"VM/windows7" take the full lower 34".
SUCCES.
3) In the "VMware toolbar" (on the 27") I switch to "View/Multiple Screen"
"VM/windows7" take the two 34" but not correctly.
The upper 34" displays one workspace in 3440*1440,
but the lower 34" display 3 resized workspace :
- sometimes one above each other using 1440/3 points vertically for each workspace (and 3440/3 horizontaly) the left and right side of the screen being black.
- sometimes like 3/4 of the screen one beside the second and the third above the second (1440/2 points vertically for each workspace (and 3440/2 horizontaly) leaving 1/4 of the screen black.
= VWware BUG = MANIP. FAILURE.
MANIPULATION B:
1) I put the "VMware Library window" on my Upper 34" (same screen shows the "VMware toolbar")
"VM/windows7" in "Single Window mode" on the Lower 34".
2) In the "VMware toolbar" (on the Upper 34") I switch to "View/Full Screen Mode"
"VM/windows7" take the full Lower 34" (and the Windows Start button & Win7 toolbar appears in this screen).
SUCCES.
3) In the "VMware toolbar" (stiil on the Upper 34") I switch to "View/Multiple Screen"
"VM/windows7" take the two 34" CORRECTLY AFTER A LOT OF BLINKING and screen resolution auto changes.
The 2 34" display each one workspace in 3440*1440,
The 27" maintains MAC OS.
But the VM/Windows7 on the 2 34" goes very quickly to sleep mode (the 2 screen turn black after a few seconds).
The screen are not in sleep mode at hardwere level...
Moving the mouse in the 34" screen awakes them but so far I'm not sure this config will be stable.
CONFIGURATION IF STABLE = OK for my need BUT:
STILL VWware BUG = BECAUSE I could get the VM on the 3 screens
and because each windows has to be place at a specific display in order to get it work.
Sugestion for VMware support & developpers:
Develop a GUI that copies the "System preference/Display" from the MAC and shows the multiple screens disposition and type and allow to extend the VM on specific screen by selecting them graphically.
Last info.:
Manipulation B hides my MAC Icons toolbar, so I had to move it to the 27".
MANIPULATION C:
1) I put the "VMware Library window" on my Lower 34" (same screen shows the "VMware toolbar")
"VM/windows7" in "Single Window mode" on the Upper 34".
2) In the "VMware toolbar" (on the Lower 34") I switch to "View/Full Screen Mode"
"VM/windows7" take the full Upper 34" (and the Windows Start button & Win7 toolbar appears in this screen).
SUCCES.
3) In the "VMware toolbar" (on the Lower 34") I switch to "View/Multiple Screen"
"VM/windows7" take the two 34" CORRECTLY AFTER SOME BLINKING and screen resolution auto changes.
The 2 34" display each one workspace in 3440*1440,
The 27" maintains MAC OS.
The two 34" go still very quickly to sleep mode until working with the VW/Windows7.
Already a big success...
I hope this wil help some of you ...
FYI:
- I didn't test these features on Parallell desktop 13 because the Support team of Parallell told me that this is still not availaible in their version 13.
- The articles:
Use Multiple Monitors for One Virtual Machine
and
VMware Workstation Documentation Center
speak about the same "solution" (see PS below) but I cannot find these menu opitions in Fusion10 menu or toolbar, and thy are no shortcut (CMD+...+...) proposed.
If anyone can help me on this:
- how to Deselect "Take & restore snapshots" in Fusion V10?
- how to "Cycle multiple monitors" in Fusion V10?
Thank a lot.
Michel
