After using vmware-toolbox to shrink my Ubuntu 7.10 VM, the following message appeared in the terminal in which I started vmware-toolbox:
Log: FILE: FileIO_Write failed 28.
Should I be worried?

That's normal and expected. Part of the shrink process is to identify which parts of the virtual disk are unused so that we can reclaim them - we do this by creating a file in the guest and writing zeros to it until we run out of space. Then we delete it and compact the disk. The message you see just means we finished making the file.

Ah, great, thanks for the tip!
