I'm setting up some automated tests for a USB device driver and I want to be able to use some kind of script to change which VM a given USB device is connected to.
I know how to do that in the GUI.
I am using VMWare Fusion 8.5.3 (4696910) on MacOS X. I'm thinking I would like to do some automated tests using guest OS that are different versions of MacOS X as well as Linux, so probably several virtual machines.
I checked to see if it can be done via Applescript but it appears that VMWare Fusion does not have a scripting dictionary.
I am wondering if that is something that can be done via the command line? Or is this a feature that is available in VMWare Fusion Pro?
Hi,
The answer is "no" there is no such feature available.
The only way to do this is by editing the vmx file and that means your VM has to be shut down.
Having said that..
A couple of versions back there used to be some apple scripting support that you could use and I seem to remember that at the time it was mentioned that you could get it to work in a later version as well.
Right.. here it is:
Did VMware removed support for AppleScript in Fusion 7 ?
