IMAC NVIDIA Driver download problems

Jump to solution

I have the 24 IMAC with 1.1Beta Fusion loaded and XP PRO. When loading games I receive the following warning in my virtual window: "GLW_StartOpen GL () could not load OpenGL subsystem." I believe this is a driver download issue for my NVIDIA Geforce 7300 GT video card inside my XP virtual window with Fusion 1.1. Can anyone help? Everytime I go to the NVIDIA website for downloads while inside the virtual window I receive an "incompatable hardware warning." HELP.. NOGEEK am I.

Windows XP running under Fusion does not have direct access your host's video card. In a virtual machine, the virtual video card is a virtualized card with a subset of the host video capabilities. The virtual machine video card will never match what the real host card is this is why the Nvidia drivers don't install. VMware provides their own accelerated video drivers as part of the VMware Tools, so it's important to install those.

As for the OpenGL call, currently Fusion implements DirectX 8.1 (in 1.0) and experimental DirectX 9 support (in 1.1b1). Full OpenGL capabilities are not present.

VMware monitors these forums and they are aware of user's needs. Your request here counts as a small informal vote on OpenGL. Plus competitors are looking to differentiate themselves from VMware on this feature.

VMware maintains a list of working games and 3D apps in the 1.0 Release Notes and a new working list here:

I am trying to run a standalone image resizer which needs openGL so can I please add my call for this?  I'm running Fusion 2.08 but from what I've seen this has not been addressed in Fusion 3.0

Hi there videoscapepro,

This thread is from 2007, so it's probably not relevant to what you're experiencing.

I'd recommend that you start a thread describing the problem you're having so that we can better assist.

Further, Fusion 3 wwhas many new OpenGL features that Fusion 2 does not, so I encourage you to test out a Trial copy.  If the problem persists, start a thread and we'll see how we can help.

Thanks 😃
