How to install VMWare Tools in CentOS virtual disk

I've a VMWare virtual disk with last version of Centos 5.1

If i click on install vmware tools nothing happens ...

How to solve that ?

Fusion menu bar > Help > VMware Fusion Help > Creating Virtual Machines > Installing and Upgrading VMware Tools > To install or upgrade VMware Tools in a Linux virtual machine from the command line with the tar installer or RPM Installer.

Btw. do you need to install the tools in the first place? If you are going to use it in console mode as a development server, then no need to install VMware Tools. Install the VMware Tools only if you want to deploy this very VM to be used in real work as a server, or if you need to run it as a desktop (=with a GUI like Gnome or KDE).
