How can my VM use more graphics memory greater than my host's graphics memory

I have a 2018, 15 inch MacBook Pro base model with the 4GB AMD Radeon Pro 555X, in the settings of a Windows 10 VM, it is recommended to set the value to 8GB, but how is it able to allocate more memory than what my host has?

Because it's not actually the graphics hardware that's allocated - VMWare creates a virtual adapter for the guest.
