Guest Problem

I have installed XP in Fusion (I'm running version 1.0, build 51348) and it works fine, but I have a problem with VMware Menus.

I understand if you install vmware tools, the following menu items will appear:

Shut Down Guest

Suspend Guest

Restart Guest

I further understand if you don't install the tools, the following menu items will appear:

Power Off

Suspend

Reset

I have installed the tools, but I don't get the first set of menu items -- I tried uninstalling the tools, restarting, then installing the tools, but nothing changes.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Out of curiousity, how was this VM created?

You can try adding the following line to the .vmx file with a text editor:

powerType.powerOff = "soft"

"Out of curiousity, how was this VM created? "

Sorry for the delay.... I created the VM from the original XP CD.

Note that I added type PowerType command and now menu item, "Shut Down Guest" appears.

Do I have to make other entries to have the "Suspend Guest" and "Shut Down Guest" menu items to appear?

No other entries should be required.

Was the VM created under Fusion? If so, which build?

Yes, it was created under Fusion. Cannot remember which build, but I do know it was still in Beta and before RC-1. If I had to guess, I would say the release that was current in Mid April/07.
