EA has recently updated all the owners of a digital copy of The Sims 2 to the "Ultimate" version, including all the expansions, due to the closure of their support for this game.
I've installed it on Windows XP SP3 guest running on Mac Os X 10.9.4 on a iMac Late 2010 (i3 3.2 Ghz, 8GB Ram, ATI 5670 512MB).
Unfortunately the game shows a pulsating Pink blob instead of the terrain background, even when all graphic settings are turned down (see the attached image).
From what I can understand reading about this problem, it seems that the it's usually caused by an incompatibility between the video card/drivers and the game lighting system.
Does anybody know a working fix for this?

There's a known issue that gamma settings in many games in guests are non-functional. Not sure if that's related.
No brightness or gamma settings on The Sims 2, I'm afraid.
