Been testing Fusion Pro 8 and wanted to see how it does in migrating a Windows 7 Pro VM from Parallels 11.
So far, every attempt fails, whether through File, Import (See the screen grab for the error message) or using the PC Migration Agent (v5.1.2-2233062).
Interestingly, the Parallels VM originated with Fusion Pro 7, so Parallels was able to import it successfully.
Any tips on how to successfully import/migrate a Parallels 11 VM to Fusion 7 or 8?
Hi Brighter,
Could you please attach the Parallels VM here, if possible?
Thanks~

I hope you're joking.
Hi, BrighterO
I got a temporary solution to this case.
1. Power off your VM.
2. Open Settings of this VM.
3. Remove any SATA type of machine.
Then it should be able to finish the process: Fusion -> Parallel -> Fusion
Also if you encounter any other importer issue from Parallel to Fusion, remove the devices with InterfaceType equals 2.
Do not worry about the devices, you can add them if you want to.
I hope this can help.
I have the exact same issue ... having tried all kinds of things.
I believe I have removed everything from my parallels vm ... all settings referring to a piece of hardware and then closing parallels.
Import fails.
Could you please attach your vm's config file (~/Documents/Parallels/your_vm.pvm/config.pvs) here, please?
Sorry, I mean configure of your Parallels VM here.
Thanks for your information. By checking the config file, I found that your hard disk is a SATA disk.
By doing the following steps, the import process should work out.
Steps:
1. Open Parallels -> Shut down the vm
2. Open the vm's settings pane -> Hardware Tab -> Hard Disk -> Advanced Settings, change the Location to be a SCSI slot.
3. Quit Parallels
4. Open Fusion and do the importing.
Thank You so much for Your reply...
And sorry for a late reply. I have been busy at work. I had already tried what You describe without luck. I had however, tried to change from SATA to IDE ...and now after You wrote this ... I tried to change it to SCSI. However, none of them worked.
Any other ideas?
Regards,
Martin
It's brute force, but you could try attaching a USB drive inside the parallels VM, then running the VMWare Vcenter converter to build a clean fusion VM from inside the parallels one.
