Fusion Unity not starting with multiple monitors after latest VMware tools update

After installing the latest Fusion VMware tools update in my Windows VM, Unity is not starting with a, "Display Topology update request could not be completed in guest" error.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling tools with no change.  This was working fine for the past several years and the tools update was the only change made.  If I unplug my external monitor, then Unity starts without issue.  I use the 2nd monitor with a Microsoft Remote Desktop session dedicated to it which allows me to work from home.  I have reviewed the https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1027884 article, which pointed me to disconnecting my external monitor, but there is no information on how to resolve the issue beyond that.

macOS Monterey Version 12.3.1 on iMac Retina 5K.  External monitor is a 4K monitor.

Fusion 12.2.4 (20071091)

VM is running Windows 10 Enterprise 10.0.19042 Build 19042

After some fiddling around, I increased the video memory to 512 MB and Unity started working again.  Configuration is in the Virtual Machine Settings dialog, in Display.  I also increased the Processor memory to 12 GB (12,288 MB) at the same time, but I'm willing to be it is the video memory increase that resolved the issue.

Along the way I updated Monterey to Version 12.6 (current) but that did not resolve the issue.

As it turns out, increasing the vRAM memory to 512 MB worked exactly twice then stopped working.  I no longer have Unity working on my setup.  Sigh.
