Fusion Not Found?

Please if anyone can help, I'm lost!
My macbook is on version 10.15.7 Catalina
I tried to start VMWare Fusion so I can log into my Windows 10 and it just displayed a black screen. Then it told me a newer version is available and asked me to update. For some reason, I knew doing this would be a bad idea! I tried to ignore the prompt and just start Windows but it wouldn't work and just kept displaying a black screen. So I thought maybe the update was necessary so I started the update for Fusion.
During the update, some error came up, I can't remember what it was and then it closed. Now when I try to click on the blue and red VMWare Fusion icon in my dock on the bottom, nothing happens and it just shows a question mark over the icon as if it's missing.
I have absolutely no idea what to do and I tried calling support to no help.

What I think happened is that when I updated my mac to Catalina in October 2020, it made my version of Fusion incompatible anymore and therefore, Fusion itself needed an update. Unfortunately for me, during that process, it quit and now I don't have my old version of Fusion or the new updated one.

Please help, any advice is appreciated. Thank you

Original version of Fusion, updated version of Fusion?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Fusion? (Being careful not to delete your VM files)

Hi Scott, thank you for your reply.

I am going to try reinstalling fusion (had to search forever to find it). Do you recommend a method where I don't delete old VM files?

the VMWare fusion application should be in your applications folder (the dock is just an alias).  You can drag that to the trash, empty trash, reboot, then reinstall the new version.

Virtual machines could be in many locations.

To make sure you're deleting the application, if you click on it, then do cmd-i, you'll see under General/Kind: Application.  That'll verify that it's not the virtual machine itself.
