Fusion 8.5.2 on macOS Screen Doesn't Auto Resize Ubuntu 16.04 Guest

Not sure what is wrong, but I can't get my Ubuntu 16.04 VM to properly resize when going full screen.  The option "Resize Virtual Machine to Fit" is greyed out.

I've got VMware tools installed, so not sure what the deal is.

Any suggestions on getting this to work are appreciated.

Please try uninstalling your current tools, then download and install VMTools 10.1.0 in your Ubuntu VM, that should fix your problem. You can find VMTools 10.1.0 at below web address:

Awesome, thanks for that.

If anyone else is having trouble, I guess I had compounded things by trying open-vm-tools in addition to the VMware provided versions.  Make sure that you fully uninstall all previous version, or this solution won't work for you the first time.

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove open-vm-tools

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove open-vm-tools
