I just upgraded from 4. For all intents and purposes, VMware fusion works, but when I log into my virtual machine (running XP SP3), I get the following dialog popup:
VMware Tools Core Service
VMware Tools Core Service has encountered a problem
and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
AppName: vmtoolsd.exe
AppVer 9.61.27366
ModName: msvcr90.dll
ModVer: 9.0.39729.6161
Offset: 0006ccd5
Looks like it's a Dr. Watson because ultimately it wants to send information to Microsoft.
When I hover over the Fusion icon in the system tray, it disappears. The other thing I notice not working is cut/paste between the virtual machine and the host.
To workaround this
1 Go to Virtual machine menu > Settings > Default Applications
Disable Open your Mac files and web links by using Windows applications
restart windows
Holy cow, that worked! How in the world did you know?
I am curious to know the as well.
Got the same issue as well. Windows Vista vm with Fusion 6. The workaround is okay, but kinda not worth it when you have different apps in Windows.
Thanks! Worked here as well. Any idea on what changed in ver. 6 to make this a problem?
OS 10.8.5
Win XP
The latest update for Fusion resolved my issues with the service crashing!
