Fusion 5, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8, clipboard sharing not working?

MacBook Pro Retina, Lion OS X 10.7.4, defined VM with RHEL 5.8, installed latest VMware Tools, rebooted.

Clipboard sharing does not work!  What's the deal here?

If I open a text file under RHEL with gedit, and copy some text, then go to TextEdit on Mac and paste, the text is not transferred.

Doesn't work the other way either.

Well I installed another instance of RHEL 5.8 and clipboard sharing is working fine. Don't know what happened there.
