Fusion 3 / Snow Leopard / Windows 7 / Seperate Hard Drive

I installed Fusion 3.1.1 (actually a boxed 3.0 that was upgraded on install) on a seperate bootable internal hard drive on my Mac Pro Quad Core Intel Xeon (which is running a duplicate Snow Leopard install).

Everything installed and worked fine with Wiindoes 7 Home Premium, but when I rebooted using my normal start-up disk and accessed Fusion from there I get the following errors :

COULD NOT OPEN DEV/VMMON ; NO SUCH FILE OR DIRECTORY,followed by

COULD NOT INITIALIZE MONITOR, then finally

COULD NOT FIND VALID PEER PROCESS TO CONNECT TO.

at which point it hangs in suspended mode.

I've tried re-installing, but no effect. My other applications on that disk open fine when selected via main disk, and Fusion itself works if I restart the computer with that disk selected as the start-up disk. So what is stopping it starting properly when using my normal drive ? I don't want to have to re-start the entire machine every time I need to open a PC document.

Many thanks for your help.
