Fusion 3.0 vmdk mount option not visibile in Finder

I upgraded to OSX 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard) and Fusion 3.0.1 because I wanted to use the vmdk mounter to see into the disk of a corrupt machine.

The VMDK mounter does not appear when you right click on the file in Finder. You just see the Open with VMware Fusion option.

I just did this on a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.5 and used the VMDK mounter on this file with no difficulty.

I noticed that the Fusion 3.0 installation messages mentioned MacFuse during the install on the MacBook Pro, but I did not see the messages during the Snow Leopard install. I separately downloaded and installed MacFuse to no avail.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I'd uninstall/reinstall VMware Fusion and note that this does not delete your Virtual Machines.

Thanks for the advice, but I am afraid it did not work. I got the same baloon as before. No VMDK mounter option.

Here is the answer from Tech Support. It works. Andrew Painter is the man!

MacFuse with snow leopard tends not to be an install option with the

newer releases so it's good that you've downloaded it directly from

their site. VMDKmounter isn't part of their software. That's our

process that uses MacFuse to function. VMDKmounter is located in

Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > VMware Fusion.

If
you wish you can right click on one of the virtual machine bundles and
choose open with then browse for the application. When you browse
navigate the path mentioned above and then select vmdkmounter.

This should allow you to open your virtual machine using VMDKmounter.

Thank you! This is very helpful and timely advice. My .vmdk was not associated with anything, and  VMDKmounter was not an Open With option. Running 10.6.5, and VMWare 3 was installed under SNow Leopard.
