  • 1.  Fusion 13 won't launch, application not responding

    I just purchased a license, but seems that i can't actually launch the application. How can i debug or move forward?

    I'm on an M1 running OSX Monterey 12.6.2 

    So far i tried

    1. manual removal https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1017838 and re-install

    2. rebooting after installing

    In both cases, i still can't launch vmware fusion 13, it pins the CPU at 100% and stops responding

    I can't seem to completely remove the application to do an actual clean slate test, for one thing i was running the tech preview, but it also failed to start after some time, and i can still see the 2 VM's that i had previously used in it when i right click the icon in the dock.

    I have attached a partial dump of the log from the process when i force quit it. It looks like it's trying to read a file, but can't.  I have no idea, i'm not an apple developer, hence wanting to run a VM.

    Have you tried creating a new user account and launching from there?  That'll pinpoint if it's the app, or some preference conflict.

    In addition to performing a full manual uninstall of Fusion per KB article https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1017838 I also remember some advice on checking for and removing the following:

    rm -rf /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.vmware.fusion.InstallHelper

    There have been other people that if you let the installer sit there, eventually it will complete. This issue has been seen before in the forums, but there's nothing that has pinpointed where the issue is.

    If this is a license purchased in the last 30 days, you always have the option to open a official support request to VMware.

    ok, i fixed it

    one of these 2 commands fixed it.  seems i must have missed these files when doing the manual removal

    $ rm -rf /Users/$USER/Library/Preferences/com.vmware.fusion*
    $ rm -rf /Users/$USER/Library/Preferences/VMware\ Fusion/

    At least it's fixed now

    That's good news, Can you please attach the latest logs now when Fusion is launching fine, I will try to compare it with previous log

    and see what's the difference. Probably it will have something for your particular case.

    I had this issue too. I uninstalled VMWARE manually as rusell11 said - and then ran the commands below.

    $ rm -rf /Users/$USER/Library/Preferences/com.vmware.fusion*
    $ rm -rf /Users/$USER/Library/Preferences/VMware\ Fusion/
