Fusion 12.2.1 on Macbook OS Monterey - can't get internet access with Windows XP Home client

I have a problem getting internet to work on my Window XP Home edition client. I have a MacBook Air with Monterey 12.2.1 as OS. The weird thing is that the LAN indicates it is connected. When I launch Explorer (to a default micorosoft.com address) it does not seem to work. When put google.com as target is the explorer address bar then it loads the google start page, I can conduct searches - when clicking the results then I get the error message "The page cannot be displayed" and suggestions like "To attempt fixing network connectivity problems, click Tools, and then click "Diagnose Connection Problems..."

I have tried to look at all te settings on my Mac and in Windows but I cannot get it to work properly.

Hope there is a reasonable painless fix to this - I am somewhat dazzled by other threads. I spend up to 15 hours now messing around.... Hope someone can help me out.

Sure I’ve read here before that a lot of websites now refuse to work with XP when using Internet Explorer as the browser, regardless of there being IP-based connectivity… Try a different browser.

You should be able to resolve this by changing your network in settings from Bridged to Share with my Mac.

Hi Gingley,

That was the setting I am already using (I have been trying to make this work - so tried with both options )

Running Windows XP on the Internet today is a virus outbreak waiting to happen. Microsoft hasn't supported it or updated it in some time now. I hope/stongly suggest that you run some kind of AV in that VM.

This will sound naive, but I have AV on my Mac (the host), should that not intercept any viruses?

The AV is running on your Mac and cannot see what is going on in the virtual machine.
