Failed to allocate shared memory

I am using VMware Fusion 1.1 on a 5 month old 15 inch MacBook Pro (2.4 GHz with 4 GB of RAM) under OS X 10.5.1 (with the latest updates). I am running Windows XP 64 bit (with the latest updates) as a guest. I started getting the following error message today while running the ICAP/4 Spice circuit simulation program whenever a simulation is launched. "IsSpice4 failed to allocate shared memory". When I dismiss the error message, the simulation seems to finish normally.

Does anyone know if this error message is a VMware Fusion issue?

The problem started earlier today when I attempted to launch Fusion. The launch hung with a message that the "Virtual Machine is off". I attempted to shut Fusion down and instead of turning off, it resumed what appeared to be normal loading. The problem has been present ever since. Rebooting the machine did not help. I uninstalled and reloaded the Spice simulation program with no improvelment. Apple support had never heard of the issue. ICAP/4 Spice support did not know about this issue. I need some fresh ideas.

If I reinstall Fusion; what, if anything, does it do to the guest operating system and installed applications?

Your Fusion installation does sound a little wonky, but I don't think it should cause IsSpice4 to fail to allocate memory. As noted in , uninstalling/reinstalling Fusion does not affect virtual machines, so reinstalling Fusion seems like a good thing to try.

I reinstalled Fusion but, unfortunately, it did not fix the problem. The process of elimination now points to my Windows XP installation. What a pain.

What are the memory settings for your XP 64-bit VM?

How much disk space do you have remaining on your disk? You're not running out of space on your Mac are you?

In your XP installation on your virtual machine, what are the virtual memory settings? Min, max and currently used stats would be interesting to see.

Also, are there any warnings in either the system or application event logs within your XP VM?
