External USB DVD Here Today Gone Tomorrow

macOS Venture 13.2.1

Was using the external DVD yesterday (and for weeks prior) without issue. Launched today and it can't find jack for jack. I even tried other DVDs drives as well as swapping in a different drive to the new USB chassis.

Old chassis working fine for years. Recently swapped but, again, used for weeks after the swap.  Relaunched Windows multiple times. Tried to get VMW to re-recognize it. Tried uninstalling the drive in VMW Tools and adding it back (with reboots in-between just to be sure).

Nada. Same error.

Help me Obi Wans....

Trying to use VMW Tools to connect to the optical disc (no matter which one) now gets this. (It didn't yesterday)

If this is a pioneer drive, Apple broke something in the latest ventura release and they no longer connect.  MacRumors has a thread on it.

Thanks good tip.

It's a TS-H653 (Toshiba workhorse).  Also it seems the warning was from 2022 and this just happened (some month or so after that OS update).
