External SATA Drive Not Recognized Correctly

Hello,

I have a Pioneer BDR-203BK (Blu-ray disk burner) inside a Vantec NexStar DX SATA enclosure connected to my Mac via USB.  I'm trying to do a firmware update on the device from Fusion with Windows XP Professional (Version 2002 Service Pack 3) as the guest operating system.  (The firmware update is only available as a Windows Install).

Fusion recognizes the drive as a DVD-RAM device, and when trying to apply the firmware update I get an error message "Available target is not found."  I think the firmware updater is expecting to see the device itself but instead finds necvmwar vmware ide cdr00.  How do I get connected to the physical drive?

Thanks!

Well, after spending hours trying to figure this out, all it took was posting this question and the lightbulb came on.  The answer is right there in my initial post--the device is connected via USB.  Once I connected the device to Fusion as a USB device all was good.

Thanks!
