Expanding Virtual Windows 10 disk

Hello - I tried to expand my 60 GB virtual disk for Windows 10 to 75 GB. To expand the container on Mac was no problem. After that, I wanted to bring Win to acknowledge the new size. I opened Disk Manager an found the c: disk. In the bottom row the new size was listed as 15 GB not used. Via right-click on the c: symbol in the top list should be the option "Expand disk“ but is is disabled. Now I am stuck. Any proposals?

Does the additional disk space show up as directly adjacent to the C: partition, or is there another partition in between?

Yes, there is one in-between.

That explains it. Partitions can only be resized with adjacent free disk space.

It would be interesting to find out what's on this partition, i.e. whether it is required.

In case it's needed, you could use e.g. a gParted Live CD/ISO, and move this partition to the end of the disk, so that the free disk space can be used to increase the C: partition. If the partition isn't required you may consider deleting it.

In any case you should have a backup of the current VM, and create a snapshot prior to modifying the partitions.

Ok, what I would do now is to:

1. shut down the VM
2. take a snapshot
3. power on the VM
4. delete the 450MB partition
5. reboot the VM to see whether it works
6. if it works, resize the C: partition

If it doesn't work, revert to the snapshot, and let me know what happened.

I came to point 4. - but I can’t delete this partition: right-click on it shows only the option „help"

You may need to use diskpart as admin to delete such a partition - maybe even use a thirdparty tool like gparted.

I use that, it can both move and resize partitions easily  - no command line required.

I did what was suggested here: so far so good - the disk c: is now 75 GB and the separating volume is gone. EaseUs partition free did the trick w/o hassle. All runs so far w/o any problems.
