Excel losing focus, being sent away

Hi there, upgraded to Version 3.1.0 (261058) and am working away in Excel 2010 on Windows 7 Ultimate in Unity. I'm experiencing odd behaviour that is a bit hard to reproduce.

Symptom:

Excel gets sent to the back of all the running apps while in use, behind all other windows, and I must command-tab to get to it

How I get this to happen:

The behaviour is a bit tricky to reliably reproduce, but I find it happening:

1) When simply editing any content in a cell

2) After - possibly - doing some editing and using the FN+Up/Down arrow keys to navigate

Anyone else experience this? Have not been able to find a similar thread.... Thanks!

That's very weird indeed.

Have you tried rebooting Windows 7?

Thanks for the suggestion... so far, so good. I will try some more heavy editing, and then update accordingly.

Curious is you resolved this problem? I'm experiencing something that seems similar. When I'm typing in a cell while in Unity Mode I'm constantly switched out of that window to one of my non-Fusion windows. It's as if the act of typing is treated as ALT/TAB. Driving me nuts.

This seems to have worked... If not, I'll post again. Thanks!!

Sadly, I've been plugging away, and nope... restart didn't solve it!! Any other ideas??

Having the same problem with Excel - switching out of Unity mode seems to sort it. Any progress on your side?

Yes, same basic "solution"... don't use Unity... that seems not useful. I wonder if this thread is being avoided because it says "answered" when it is not. I cannot "unanswer" this thread either sadly. If nothing happens soon, I'll just open up a new topic with the same symptoms....

Hi,

Not even a moderator can unanswer the question.

Definitely open up a new topic with the details as you have them now.

You've identified it is related to Unity, that you can get the problem fixed for a little while by rebooting... etcetera...

Try to list the issue with as much details as possible. For example the version of excel, maybe even a demo excel file.

What kind of graphics card are you using?

If the people from VMware who are monitiring the forums see this and can reproduce the issue then they can log it as a bug.

Only after an issue is logged as a bug and reproducable, it can get fixed.

The more accurate the report, the bigger the chance it gets fixed.

Hope this helps,

I second wila's recommendation. I just tried using Excel 2010 in XP SP3 in Unity mode for a few minutes with multiple windows, sheets and paged cells and everything worked "as expected" using plain arrows, fn-arrows and ctrl-arrows (for Spaces). I actually have a problem with Excel on OS X where it either fights with Fusion or spaces and swaps me out so this may not be Windows-specific Smiley Happy

I'm curious if your issue is a z-order focus problem within a space or a spaces switching problem (ctrl-arrows switch spaces). The more details you can offer the better.
