I upgraded to Yosemite - My VMWare 6 installations refused to work. I paid $100 this morning to download VMWare 7 for my two computers. It won't install ("invalid serial number"). I called VMWare support this afternoon; they say problems on their end will take 24 to 48 hours to fix.
Now I'm without my business software, which I need to teach a seminar stating tomorrow!
As soon as I get VMWare working again, I'm recovering my software, deleting VMWare for good, and clearing my drive for a Boot Camp partition. I just don't need this grief.
AMF VMWare.
1. You're the one that chose to upgrade to OS X 10.10 Yosemite!
2. VMware Fusion 7 is freely available and fully functional for a 30 day trial, and pulls the serial number from the server, all you have to do is enter an email address!
So while you're having an issue with the purchase you could still install VMware Fusion 7 in fully functional free 30 day trial mode till the issue is resolved! ![]()
While you're right that a new VMWare installation is available on a trial basis, would I pick up my existing installed machines & use the existing software? If so, then I retract my complaint.

Your said "... would I pick ...", did you mean "... would it pick ..."? If so then yes, every newer release of VMware Fusion is capable of working with Virtual Machines created in previous versions! ![]()
I believe you were using an older build of Fusion 6. I highly recommend you to try the Fusion 6.0.5 build available here

Download VMware Fusion 6.0.5 only version which excludes McAfee

Stop blaming the victim. I'm pretty sure old versions of VMWare Workstation still run under Win7 and I'm sure newer versions will probably still run on an XP machine. People upgrade OS's for a reason, especially when not a lot under the hood changes with OSX upgrades. The jump from 10.9 to 10.10 is not major but significant enough to warrant the desire to upgrade.
Out of all the obscure packages and CLI UNIX tools I have installed, VMWare Fusion 5 is the ONLY one to have any issues. And it wasn't even included in any incompatible app list. This is silly. People shouldn't have to fork over $$$ after installing a slightly newer OS to upgrade licenses. Especially when VMWare Workstation users running Windows do not.
Hello kdogden,
For your information, the Community Forum is not an official support-forum and is not actively monitored by VMware Support or Product Managers. This is a community based forum where VMware Fusion users help other users.
To get official support please go to: Fusion Support and open a ticket at File a Support Request
WoodyZ is just another VMware user who spends countless of hours on helping out VMware users.
While his wording might sometimes be a little direct, he is usually correct, updating the host OS is a user choice, not a requirement.
Comparing virtualization software with random CLI tools and assume that because they work under the new OS that Fusion should work as well is not a completely fair comparison.
Virtualization depends on low level OS integration and not just GUI stuff and some low level OS X change broke Fusion 5.
