Documenting of large files types for AV exclusion list

Is there any documentation on the file types that are costly to check for anti-virus? For now VMDK and ISO come to mind. Also on a Mac, the extension for ISOs is usually .cdr which is the default extension Apples Disk Utility appends when ripping CD/DVD media.

For performance reasons, I would expect users to add large file types to their AV extensions exclude list.

Are there anti-virus applications on the Mac? I would have expected the lack of viruses on that platform to have killed this market

You might want to add .vmem if you use virtual machines with a lot of virtual RAM. I cannot think of any other extension for large files at this point.

We are also thinking about registering these large files as "not backupable by Time Machine" in Leopard.

There's more of Mac AV than people think...and all as a service to the Redmond folks: ClamAV, Sophos, Intego VirusBarrier, and Norton AV.
