Display settings under properties

I have a Windows program that opens and runs just fine

on my Intel iMac.

That same program will not open on my Macbook Pro.

It requires that I reset display properties to meet it's requirements.

After setting the screen resolution to 1440X900 applying and confirming

the change the program opens and runs just fine. But the very next time

I open and run the program I get the same error that I must set the screen

resolution to XXXby XXX and the program will not open until I again set

the screen resolution.

In fact in the process of making the resolution change i can see the

screen resolution bar changing from where I set it to another setting

before I confirm the setting. Can someone help me solve the minor

irritation?

Do I need to install the VM. If so How can I do that without having to re-install

windows XP and my other installed programs?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Barry

Probably why you not getting a response on this is because you've not included enough relevant information as well as making statements like...

Do I need to install the VM. If so How can I do that without having to re-install windows XP and my other installed programs?

"Do I need to install the VM" makes no sense.

You should be including things like Host/Guest OS versions and Service Pack levels, Fusion version, name of the program having a problem and the actual requires resolution not xxx by xxx, default screen resoultion on the iMac vs default resolution on the MBP, etc., etc.!

So have a look at and include the information that the document telly you should be including.

Sorry about the confusion. Maybe this will help.

I am using an iMac and a MacBook pro with

Mac OS 10.5.6

To run Windows XP I'm using the latest version of VMWare fusion Version 2.0.1 (128865)

Under VMware fusion I'm running Windows XP professional on both the iMac and the

MacBook Pro. Both updated.

I can usually solve stuff like this

in windows but this is weird.

I'm trying run an application but it wont start

instead I get this error......

"The minimum screen resolution needed to

run XXXX program is 1024X768 pixels.

Your current screen resolution is currently set

to 1330x712 pixels"

So I change the resolution saved it and restarted

windows and the program works.

The next time i try to start the application the same

thing happens. Same error

The is the only Windows application I use that causes

this error.

I also use the same Windows application on my iMac

but i don't get this error at all.

How can I get Windows XP to keep the chosen resolution

so that i don't continue to get this error?

Thanks

You are not using the latest version of Fusion. At this point in time the latest is 2.0.2 (147997).

Have a look at: Download VMware Fusion

On a MacBook Pro to obtain that resolution I have three suggestions.

1. Hide the Toolbar of the Virtual Machine window. (VMware Fusion (menu bar) > View > Hide Toolbar)

2. If necessary, decrease the hight of the Dock in OS X.

3. If necessary, hide the Status Bar of the Virtual Machine window. (VMware Fusion (menu bar) > View > Hide Status Bar)

Changed "maintain" in the 3rd line to "obtain" as that is what I meant to say in the first place. I also removed MacBook from that line because after doing the math and hiding the Dock the max vertical resolution obtainable with all 3 suggestion above is 752 so a 1024 x 768 resolution is only possable with the Virtual Machine's window having a vertical scrollbar and that may not be desirable.

Thanks Woodyz

I stand corrected, I am using V 2.0.2.

How does your suggestions make XP

keep the resolution from changing?

I never said it would keep the resolution from changing. What I originally said was "On a MacBook and or MacBook Pro to maintain that resolution I have three suggestions." and I have edited my previous reply and stated why on the edited reply.

However will say this when I run a Windows Virtual Machine in a single windows I normally hide the Toolbar and then also set the Windows Desktop to 1024 x 768 and it stays that size while Windows is running providing I don't change it after the fact. With the Toolbar and Status Bar showing and the Dock not hidden and set as small as it can go 744 was the max vertical resolution. So if you what to not have scrollbars in single window on a 15" MBP and have 1024 x 768 with both the Toolbar and Status Bar you need to hide the Dock.

Thanks for your kind response. I'm not a Windows

KInda Guy so something like this is an education

that will be remembered for sure.

Having said that and Just looking at your reply

Would it be fair to say that the author of the application in

question wrote his code so that it restricts screen

resolution for some reason?

I ask that because his is the only application that requires

this adjustment when i run XP on my MacBook.

I have seen a few different applications over the years that have minimum screen resolution requirements so it's not a big to to me.

Also running an application that requires minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768 on a MacBook can be done in Full Screen view but not single window without scrollbars.

Anyway on a 15" Mac Book Pro just hide the Toolbar and 1024 x 768 in single window view it obtainable and it you manually set it before running that app it should stay between shutdown/reboots.
