I have a program that insists on DirectX 11. When will I be able to run it in Fusion?
Hi there,
Great question, we get it a lot.
Firstly, we can't comment on our roadmap publicly, however there are a few things I can share about where we're at with this.
The way we make DX work in a Windows VM is by translating those calls to the OpenGL engine on the host Mac.
Important DX11 functions don't have an OpenGL equivalent on the Mac, so they simply can't be translated. Every Hypervisor suffers from this.
However, with Fusion 10 which we just announced we have no moved to Metal on the host Mac instead of OpenGL.
Metal still does not have parity with DX11 or 12, but it's closer than OpenGL so it might give us opportunity to advance our guest 3D support in the future.
Well I sincerely hope that is the case, that Metal will allow you to advance guest 3D support in the future. I for one would really appreciate that.
