DVD Playback in VM

I know this may sound odd, why would one want to play back DVD video in a VM? Mostly I only do it for codecs I have in Windows Media 11 and to make sure I burn a DVD correctly for any OS.

Anyway, from a quick search it doesnt look like anyone has brought this up. When I try to playback a DVD video in a Vista Ultimate VM I get an error about screen resolution, then get pointed to the following URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/webhelp/default.aspx?&mpver=11.0.6000.6336&id=C...

I'm guessing this is related to a video driver issue, which could be related to DX 10 or DX 9 support in the VM. I tried my XP VM but realized I dont have a DVD codec installed.Anyone else run across this? Is it a known issue?

Thanks!

I commented on my VM DVD experiences toward the end of this thread. (Ignore the old stuff at the beginning.)

I've never managed to get Windows Media Player to play a DVD or ripped DVD image. Other players do a better job.
