Creating virtual machine from from old Macs

I am a new user to VMware using Fusion Player version 12.1.0 on my modern Mac with the free user license.

I was able to install Windows 10 on a virtual machine very easily, and I'm having a little trouble figuring out how to create a Mac virtual machine. My idea is to create VMs to virtualize my old Macs, which I currently have backed up as .sparsebundle disk images on a single external USB drive. Is it possible to import or clone these into a VM, since they already have all of the macOS system files and whatnot?

Thank you!
