Copy and Paste not working - OS X Fusion 4.1.3 / Ubuntu 10.04

Hi all,

My host OS is OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and my guest VM is Ubuntu 10.04. Despite installing vmware-tools, and launching 'vmware-toolbox' I am unable to copy/paste between OS X and my Ubuntu guest OS, nor can I drag and drop files. Could anyone confirm if this is a known issue or not? Also would upgrading to Fusion 5 fix this?

I've also included the steps that I used to install VMware Tools on my guest Ubuntu OS:

1) Open my Ubuntu VM, and select Virtual Machine -> Install VMware tools on the OS X toolbar

2) In my Ubuntu VM I waited until the VMware tools download completed, after which an ISO was mounted, I copied the file on the ISO "VMwareTools-8.8.4-730257.tar.gz" to my home directory, and extracted.

3) I ran the following: "sudo vmware-install.py", the installation was successful, after which I restarted Ubuntu

4) I ran vmware-toolbox, but neither copy and paste nor drag and drop work.

If anyone can help, I can provide more details, compile and run code, etc. to help isolate the problem. Any help would be much appreciated!!

Thanks,

Mark

I have the same problem. What are the symptoms for you? For me when I paste from Ubuntu into a TextEdit window all I get is a spinning wheel.

I am running 10.04 LTS

Hi,

My symptoms were that copy and paste did not work. I haven't had any issues where copying from guest OS to host causes the spinning wheel...not sure.

I did notice that after restarting my laptop, copy and paste started working. But since then I have had cases where copy and paste will suddenly stop working, I haven't isolated exactly what causes copy and paste to occasionally not work, maybe vmware tools (vmtoolsd) is crashing silently.

Please try running this command

sudo ./vmware-install.pl -d     ( -d = default values )
